Progressive Alliance formed

Leftist parties form Progressive Alliance to offer political alternate

A new leftist alliance aimed at liberating people from the shackles of IMF and the World Bank and their uniformed and uninformed collaborators has been formed.

Named as the Progressive Alliance, the conglomerate of left wing parties comprises the Communist Party of Pakistan, Pakistan Inqilabi Party, National Party, Pakistan Mazdoor Mahaz, Pakistan Saraiki Party, Awami Tehreek, Jeay Sindh Mahaaz, Pakistan Mazdoor Kissan Party, Awami Jamhoori Party, Jammu Kashmir People's National Party, Jammu Kashmir National Awami Party and Gilgit Baltistan Bacho Tehreek.

The parties of the alliance have said in a joint statement that all previous governments have adopted the economic and financial policies at the behest of imperialistic institutions like the IMF, WB, ADB and others turning masses into the slaves of these monetary institutions.

"They took loans which were used on the luxuries judges, generals, civil and military bureaucracy and the politicians who used this money to create assets inside and outside the country instead of spending these loans on masses and their welfare."

The alliance components noted that now the government is slapping people with unbearable taxes to pay off these loans, resorting to imposition of various taxes frequently on one and another pretext.

It has been decided that keeping in view the hardships that masses are facing the alliance would go to masses offering them a pro- working people and common people programme which is aimed at liberating masses from the clutches of imperialistic institutions and powers.

The alliance will launch a series of protests, rallies and seminars in this regard. The first of this series would be an anti inflation and privatisation rally and a public gathering to be held on Aug 28 in Karachi.

The alliance elected Imdad Qazi of CPP and Sabir Ali Haider of PIP as convener and deputy convener of the alliance respectively for a period of six month.
