SOLIDARITY MESSAGE FROM THE WORKERS PARTY OF IRELAND TO THE COMMUNIST PARTY OF PAKISTAN ON THE 73rd ANNIVERSARY OF THE FOUNDING OF THE CPP

From:     Workers Party of Ireland

To:         The Central Committee,
              Communist Party of Pakistan (CPP)

Dear Comrades,

The Workers Party of Ireland sends comradely greetings to the Communist Party of Pakistan (CPP) and extends its best wishes and solidarity to the CPP for the 73rd anniversary of the founding of the CPP in 1948.

From its formation the CPP began the task of forming unions and associations of workers, farmers, writers, journalists and government employees in the country which led in 1951 to the entire leadership of the Party being imprisoned. In 1954, the Party was declared illegal and the majority of Party members were imprisoned compelling the Party to carry out Party work underground. When martial law was imposed in 1958 the Party was brutally suppressed. Throughout its history the CPP has been subjected to severe repression with Party members imprisoned, tortured, murdered and disappeared.

Even at present, although the CPP is able to working openly in some areas, in many others serious obstacles exist preventing open political activity. Despite these ongoing difficulties the WPI observes that the CPP is currently working on various fronts, including the Peasants Committee, the Trade Union Federation, the Democratic Students Federation, the Democratic Youth Front, the Democratic Women's Association, and the Association of Progressive Writers and continues to publish the Party paper, Red Flag.  The Communist Party of Pakistan is an active member of the International Meeting of Communist and Workers Parties and is well known to the Workers Party of Ireland.

Pakistan has been a strong ally of US imperialism in the region. It has supported and provided a safe haven for jihadi terrorist groups which have embarked on murderous attacks on secular and progressive groups in the country, including the CPP.

The Communist Party of Pakistan (CPP) is the representative party of the working class and working people of the country. It has consistently stood against the pro-imperialist policies of the ruling class. Given its longstanding principled commitment to Marxism-Leninism, the CPP remains committed to the independence of the country from imperialist domination, an end to the military’s interference in politics and state affairs, the establishment of secular democracy by eliminating the interference of religion in state affairs and politics and an end to class exploitation.

In the course of its history the CPP has had to struggle under difficult and dangerous conditions exposed to repression and reaction. Despite these difficulties the CPP and its militants worked courageously to strengthen class consciousness among workers and to build the political conditions to organise and expand the class struggle and to create a socialist society.

This anniversary occurs as workers across the world live under the conditions of the pandemic which has further served to reveal the deep structural problems of the capitalist system and which has demonstrated that capitalism cannot meet the needs of the people.  The struggle for fundamental change, class struggle and socialist transformation remains an urgent necessity demanding a break with the present system in order to create a socialist society.

The Workers Party of Ireland salutes the courage and commitment of the militants of the Communist Party of Pakistan and conveys its best wishes and solidarity to the leadership and cadre of the CPP and our congratulations on 73 years of struggle. We look forward to further strengthening the comradely relations between our two parties.

Long live the CPP!

Long live socialist internationalism!

With comradely greetings,

Gerry Grainger

International Secretary,

Workers Party of Ireland
